The Poetry Center is located on the third floor of the Sawyer Library at 73 Tremont Street. This room, overlooking the Granary Burial Ground, can be arranged in configurations including 50 seats in lecture format (all 50 chairs arranged to face the front of the space), and a maximum of 20 chairs arranged in a "hollow square" around seven tables. Other combinations are possible.
Installed audio-visual services include a mobile lectern, room-based speaker system (wireless microphones), image projection system, video playback, video recording, and video conferencing.
Room users must bring in, or make prior arrangements with University Media Services (UMS), for a laptop computer if one is needed. The room requester may ask that Sawyer Library staff manage the room’s AV equipment on Mondays through Fridays if the event ends prior to 4:30 pm. Requests of library staff to manage the Poetry Center’s AV must be made at the time of the reservation request. If the event is scheduled to end after 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, or is held on any weekend day, room users must arrange with UMS to run the AV equipment. Changes made after the initial reservation to incorporate AV into an event will require UMS involvement even if the event is scheduled to end prior to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
Food is allowed. The University’s caterer is Sodexho and may be contacted at x 6234.
The Poetry Center is not available for events during the last two weeks of the fall and spring academic semesters because the room is converted into three group study rooms.
The room is available for members of the Suffolk University community. Requests for room reservations may only be made through email to Bob Dugan at rdugan@suffolk.edu, and must be made no later than 7 calendar days in advance. Please, no phone calls. A response to the room reservation request will be provided as soon as possible via email.
