Health Insurance Information and Requirements

Massachusetts state law mandates that all students who are enrolled in 9 credits or more per semester must have health insurance.  Students must be covered either through their own qualified insurance plan, their parent’s insurance plan, or the Suffolk Student Health Insurance Plan (SSHIP). All international students are required to enroll in the SSHIP.

Every year ALL students must enroll or waive the SSHIP online.

Every year ALL students must enroll or waive by completing the following steps:
1. Go to http://www.universityhealthplans.com/
2. Click on Suffolk University
3. Click on the Suffolk University Student Insurance Plan and this will bring you to the Suffolk page
4. Click on Enrollment Form or Waiver Form
5. Fill in all required information (if a piece of required information is missing, your form will NOT be accepted)
6. Submit the form by clicking ’Apply’; If the form is accepted, you will receive immediate confirmation of your enrollment or waiver.
7. Print out the confirmation page as this will be the only documentation you will have as proof that you waived the insurance plan.

*Students wishing to waive the insurance must have comparable health insurance.  Click here for waiver eligibility.
**If students fail to waive the SSHIP by the deadline (9/15/08), they will be automatically enrolled in the plan and charged the premium rate.

Graduating students:  If you are enrolled in the SSHIP, you will need to purchase an alternative form of health insurance for coverage after the August expiration date.  The SSHIP cannot be extended.  For more information about what to do regarding health insurance coverage click here.
