• Daylight Saving Time Update

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING YOUR CALENDAR - PLEASE READ

It is important for everyone to understand that the change in Daylight Savings Time in North America could affect all calendars during the extended DST period (March 11 and April 1, 2007). Meeting requests and appointments could be off by one hour regardless of the patch status of your computer.

For example: your calendar may indicate that you have a meeting at 2:00 PM on March 15th, when in fact the meeting is actually scheduled for 1:00 PM.

There is a patch that needs to be installed on your computer. After this patch is installed you may notice that meeting times are incorrect on your calendar during the extended DST period.

This is expected. Microsoft has provided a tool (TZMove.exe) to adjust Microsoft Office Outlook calendar items when there has been a change in time zone definitions or if the user is making a permanent move to another time zone.

If you have calendar entries in Outlook download the above tool and run against your Outlook calendar to adjust calendar items after the operating system has been updated with new time zone definitions. Instructions on installing the tool are available online.

To ensure an accurate time for a meeting is displayed, we recommend that you add the date, time and time zone to the subject line of each meeting that falls within the extended DST period.

Here are some steps you can take to minimize the effect on your calendar:

Ensure that your computer has the DST patch applied.

  1. Restart your computer
  2. Install patches as follows:

Mac Users:

  • Run the Microsoft Auto Updater (located in your Applications folder) to ensure that your computer is patched to the latest version of Microsoft Entourage.
  • Run Software Update (located under the Apple menu)

PC Users:

  • If you are prompted to install a Windows Automatic Update, please do so.
  • If you are not prompted, then install the Critical and High Priority updates from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

Handheld Devices:

User the following links for information on installing the patch for your mobile device.

For any new appointments you create:

  • Include the DATE, TIME and LOCAL TIME ZONE in the subject line of all meeting requests.
  • This is only for appointments scheduled between March 11 - April 1, 2007 and October 28th - November 4th.
  • Example: Staff Meeting March 15 - 2:00 P.M. EDT.

Be sure to patch any other computers or devices that you use to update your calendar:

  • Including PDA’s, home computers, mobile phones, etc.
