How many attachments will the Mirapoint Webmail system allow me to send at one time?

The Mirapoint Webmail system will allow you to send up to 10 attachments at one time, as long as you have enough storage space to hold the sent copies.

If I use my IMAP client to access my Suffolk e-mail, what features of Mirapoint Webmail would I miss out on?

If you decide to use an IMAP client to access your Mirapoint e-mail, you will not have access to some features that are only available on the Webmail interface:

  • Quota status bar
  • Marking messages as “spam” and “not spam” with the click of a button
  • Managing your junk mail “blacklists” and “whitelists”

Do I need to purge the messages that are in my Junk Mail folder so they don’t take up storage space in my account?

No, the system will automatically purge those for you according to the junk mail policy that has been established.

What should I do if I receive messages in my Inbox that are “junk” and did not go into my Junk Mail folder?

Open the message and click the "This is spam" button. Select all three options listed so that the sender can be added to your black list, your message can be moved into your junk mail folder, and the spam can be reported to system support to ensure that future messages like these are detected as spam at a global level.

When I click on my Trash folder on the Mirapoint Webmail system, I see all the messages I have deleted. To save space, do I have to delete them out of trash too?

The messages stored in your Trash folder make up part of your quota usage. If you are absolutely sure you do not need those messages anymore, you can select them and click “Delete” or you can let the system automatically purge them for you in 30 days. Remember, once you empty your Mirapoint Webmail Trash, you cannot get those messages back!

What should I do if I delete a Webmail message accidentally?

If you delete a message accidentally, you can go into your Trash folder and undelete it by moving it back into to the Inbox or any other folder you would like. Please note that with Mirapoint Webmail, once you empty your Trash, you cannot get the message back, and University Information Services will be unable to restore if for you either.

I am missing emails or emails that I subscribe too.

Check in your Junk Email folder. If your message is listed as Possible Spam you will want to add the sender of the email to your White List within Maripoint. This way all future emails will not be tagged as spam and moved into the Junk Email folder.

Will my email address and/or password change?

No, your current email address and password will be transferred over as part of the migration.

What will happen to my email that is currently on the Suffolk email system?

Your email, including folders, will be migrated from the current email system to Mirapoint. The migration will not include your Trash folder or any local folders created with an email client such as Netscape Messenger, Microsoft Outlook, or Microsoft Outlook Express.

Please be sure to discard unneeded email messages so that unnecessary data does not have to be carried over to the new system.

What will happen to the contacts in my address book?

Your contacts will remain within the application that you currently use to access your Suffolk email. For Webmail users, address books will be migrated into the new online Mirapoint Webmail.

If you would like to import your contacts or address book from Outlook, Outlook Express, or Netscape into the new Webmail, download the instructions that are available online.

What are the recommended web browsers I should use to access Webmail?

You can use either of the popular web browsers that are available today. However, for best results it is recommended that you use Internet Explorer Version 6.0 or higher. back to top^

Why do I not see the calendar tab in Webmail?

If you are not a faculty or staff member you will not have access to personal calendar.

Is the option to Telnet/SSH available with the new Mirapoint Email System?

No, with the new system you can access you email through an Email Client software such as Outlook or through the Webmail.

No, with the new system you can access you email through an Email Client software such as Outlook or through the Webmail.

Will I lose my contacts I have in my current address book?

No, your contacts will remain just as you had them previous to the new email system.

What username and password will I use to access the Mirapoint Webmail system?

To access the Mirapoint system, you will use the same username and password you have been using with Webmail. Remember, the system is case-sensitive, so enter your username and password with the correct case.

Why are some or all of my email folders missing?

In Suffolk’s previous email system; if you were using Outlook, Outlook Express, or any other email software. You were required to have a mail/ set as the root folder path. In the new email system this mail/ is no longer required. Instruction on removing the mail/ are available online at: http://www.suffolk.edu/offices/14904.html . Scroll down the page and select the Client Reconfiguration for the application (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) you are using to access your Suffolk email.

If you have only been using Suffolk’s Webmail and you are missing folders, you will need to contact the helpdesk at 617-557-2000. They will direct you to the appropriate person to solve you problem.

How do I transfer my contacts from my current email client application to Webmail?

Will my current auto-reply that I have setup carry over to the new email system?

Yes, all auto-reply messages that are currently running the email system will be migrated over to the new email system.

How do I log into the new email system?

You can access the new system through the web at https://sumail.suffolk.edu and also have a third party software such as Outlook configured for your Suffolk email account.

I have been using an IMAP client (such as Netscape, Outlook, or Outlook Express) to access my Suffolk email. Will I still be able to do this?

Yes, the new email system will continue to support IMAP clients such as Netscape Messenger, Outlook, and Outlook Express, and it will provide a much faster, more robust web interface.

What should I do if I delete a message accidentally?
