BA in Public Relations, Boston University, 1996
 Job:  Interior Designer
 Employer:  TRO Jung Brannen

A former merchandise buyer for Laura Ashley, Cheryl was intrigued by the world of interior design. The School of Art & Design’s designation as one of the elite few institutions accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation sparked her interest. “That designation is very important,” she says. “It means I would be attending a rigorous program.”

“From brainstorming design concepts to drafting final contracts, [The School of Art & Design] teaches you to think about the big picture,” Cheryl says. “The curriculum is up-to-date on all the current industry trends. I graduated with a comprehensive understanding of the field.”

She earned her master’s degree in four years, attending day and evening classes while working part-time jobs and a fellowship with Graduate Program Director Karen Clarke. “[The School of Art & Design] fits your lifestyle,” she says. “Plus, I had the opportunity to learn from a very talented group of people.”

Prof. Clarke informed her of a job opportunity in health design at the Newton, Massachusetts, office of TRO Jung Brannen, a global architecture, interior design, engineering, and master planning firm. Originally drawn toward designing retail spaces, Cheryl “walked into the firm’s lobby and fell in love with it.” Now she is conceptualizing reception areas of her own for her clients across the country. She has designed pediatric emergency rooms, intensive care units and cardiovascular labs with a welcoming atmosphere in mind. “I am really thrilled with my career,” she says. And while she is no longer a graduate student, Cheryl says, “There is so much more to learn” about her ever-evolving field.
