High School Student Testimonials
Alessy Hammett, Pre College Student,
"I loved how the program offered me an opportunity to learn a new skill and grow by being in the studio for about six hours in a day, which is very different from my high school’s art program. The professors were excellent and, combined with a fun group, made for an awesome summer course.
I would recommend this course to others who are interested in art because after taking this program I walked away with better techniques in various media and more confidence in my
abilities.
My goals were simple: to build on my techniques so I can go on to finishing my portfolio for college. I must say that by the end of the course I finished a few pieces that are currently in my portfolio, and I used what I learned to create others!"
Kristin Braun - Pre-College Student
"Taking the Pre-college Program at Suffolk University was an awesome experience for me. The class allowed me the freedom I needed to express myself and build my confidence as an artist. The instructors were amazing, always available to guide me in a positive, natural way. I received a lot of attention and sincere feedback, and the entire experience has helped motivate me to be myself through art. The sky is the limit now.
I would recommend the pre-college art program to any high school art students looking to open new doors to their future. I am looking forward to college and hoping that it is equally satisfying!"

On Investigating Art Programs...
"During my junior year of high school, I knew I wanted to focus on art in college. Art had always been my talent and my passion, and I was looking for a school that felt comfortable and suitable for my needs... I strongly desired the harmony of attending an art school while being a part of a university--all in the center of a great city. The more I looked into it, [Suffolk] became my number one choice."
A Committed Faculty is the Key...
"The professors were very much involved with the program and all that was put into it, and it was obvious that they enjoyed what they were doing. My favorite parts of the session were when we got to spend time learning from the professors through their own experience and knowledge. I think art is something that can be passed on to others--by sharing taste, experience, feelings about art with others. I think it is important for teachers to get involved with their students in a more friendship-like, personal manner like this. Paul brought the class through Newbury Street galleries, exposing us to many kinds of art. It made me feel as though the world was mine to explore, it made me excited to spend time there. Randal shared his own work on the last day of the class, and it touched me enough to want to personally thank him. I was beyond impressed, it literally inspired me to assure myself: I want to do this."
What you’ll take away from the Pre-College experience...
"I am glad I took advantage of the Pre-College program as much as I did, because it benefited me enormously in several ways. It helped me build my portfolio and get a feel for what kind of projects I would be doing in foundation classes; it helped me get a feel for the school itself and the atmosphere of college; it gave me connections that I could look to when I applied to Suffolk, and these people will help me for the duration of my college years, and maybe beyond. That’s how I feel about this school, that they are down-to-earth people who genuinely love art and want to share as much as they can with you. I would recommend the Pre-College program to anybody who is looking into applying to college for majoring in art-whether applying to NESAD or any other school at all. I got accepted on early-admission, and I am definitely attending there this fall. "
