• Suffolk Dakar Students Walk Against World Hunger

5/21/2006

A group of forty-three students, faculty and staff of Suffolk University Dakar joined more than 18,500 men, women and children to walk against world hunger.

Students gathered at the main campus meeting place and took a bus down to Independence Square, the starting point for the worldwide march.  A cool spot under some trees and the Suffolk banner was waiting for the Suffolk walkers.

After the opening ceremony the walk began with many of the 8,500 elementary school students. The 3.5 kilometer route led the walkers past the mayor’s office, the historic train station, through Sandaga market, onto Republic Boulevard, past the Presidential Palace and back to the starting point at Independence Square.

Suffolk students sang, shouted slogans, danced to the drums along the route, blew whistles, waved flags and enjoyed the opportunity to walk in support of such an important goal; to eliminate world hunger. Some enjoyed the volunteer experience so much they even signed up for next year’s event. See you then!  Please click this link to view photos: http://www.windowonwestafrica.net/
