A film screening & discussion moderated by Nina Huntemann of CJN
For over three decades Jean Kilbourne has studied gender representation in advertising. Her award-winning films Killing Us Softly (1979) and Still Killing Us Softly (1987) have influenced millions of college and high school students across generations and on an international scale. In her most recent film, Killing Us Softly 3, Kilbourne discusses how the image of women in advertising has changed over the last 20 years - and how it hasn’t changed.
Following the screening of the film, Nina B. Huntemann, Assistant Professor of media studies, will facilitate a discussion about the image of women in advertising today. Participants are encouraged to bring copies of magazines to complement the examples that Professor Huntemann will provide.
