The Suffolk University Residence Hall at 150 Tremont Street opened in August 1996.
The hall is co-ed and is comprised of single, double, triple and quad rooms arranged along a corridor with a shared bathroom or in suites ranging in size from 4-10 students (suites are single sex and include double and single rooms, and a shared lounge and bathroom which are used and maintained by the suite members), housing 434 students.  There are no kitchens in any of the suites.  About 75% of the rooms in the building are for two people (doubles).  Single rooms, which are priced at a higher rate, are available to new students on a very limited basis.  The triples (3 students) and quads (4 students) are the largest rooms in the residence hall and typically house new students.  Over 60% of incoming new students will be assigned to 150 Tremont Street.

The Nathan R. Miller Residence Hall at 10 Somerset Street (Miller Hall) opened in August 2003.
The residence hall houses a total of 345 students on small floors (either 19 or 23 residents).  The hall is co-ed, comprised of doubles and a small number of singles arranged in “clusters”.  A cluster is a set of 2 rooms with a shared bathroom.  A small number of quad rooms, with a private bathroom, are also available.  Residents are responsible for maintaining the bathrooms. About 85% of the bedrooms in the building are for two people (doubles).  Single rooms, which are priced at a higher rate, are available to new students on a very limited basis.  Approximately 30% of incoming new students will be assigned to 10 Somerset Street.

The Suffolk University Residence Hall at 10 West Street opened in January 2008.
This residence hall houses 269 students in apartments and suites.  Suites accommodate 3-5 students and apartments accommodate 2-6 students.  We would plan to house upperclassmen in the apartments.  There are single and double bedrooms within the suites and single, double, triple and quad bedrooms in the apartments.  Approximately 10% of incoming students may be assigned to 10 West Street.

In addition to our residence halls, we have had to utilize The Holiday Inn Boston at Beacon Hill during the last three years to accommodate the demand for housing.  While we are hoping that the addition of the new residence hall on West Street will resolve this matter, there is still a chance that the University would seek additional housing in the Holiday Inn or similar location.  There are two staff members per floor.  Students enjoy a unique living community, full housekeeping services, internet, cable television and local phone service.  The students live in double rooms with hotel amenities – double beds, bathrooms, etc.  There is a desk for each student.  All rooms are carpeted and air-conditioned.  While this space is usually used for the last deposited students, freshmen women can request to live there as well, should we need to utilize off-campus, leased property.

All University housing is alcohol- and smoke-free.

Staffing
There is a Resident Assistant (RA) on each floor at 150 Tremont and 10 West, on alternate floors at 10 Somerset, and 2 on each floor at the Holiday Inn.  An RA is an upper-class student who is selected through a very competitive process.  RAs work to develop community within the building through programming, getting to know the residents and policy enforcement.  An Assistant Director of Residence Life and Summer Programs, who is a professional staff member, lives in each residence hall.

Room Amenities
Each student will have a twin bed and mattress, a desk and chair, a wardrobe and a dresser.  All rooms have overhead or wall-mounted lighting and each room is painted off-white.  Each window (all rooms have one, some have two) has a blind and all student rooms are carpeted and air-conditioned.  Each room is wired for local phone service.  Each room is also wired for satellite television and internet services and all have wireless internet access.  The apartments are fully furnished:  bedrooms as listed above, living room furniture and kitchens including electric stove, refrigerator, garbage disposal and microwave. The cost of these services is included in your room and board charges.

Meal Plans
All residence hall students are required to be on the university meal plan, except for the students who live in the apartments at 10 West Street.  The Sodexho Corporation provides all dining services at Suffolk University.  In both buildings, breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily.  On the weekends, brunch and dinner are served.  Each evening, the dining halls offer a “late night” dining period.  The meal plan is a debit card service and all items are a la carte.  Each purchase will be deducted from the meal plan.  You can check out dining services at Suffolk at  http://www.suffolk.edu/campuslife/Ram%20Account.html

150 Tremont Corridor:  most rooms are on the corridor.  This is the “traditional” style of a residence hall.  Students who live in corridor rooms share two floor bathrooms – one for men, one for women.  Many of the corridor rooms at 150 Tremont Street overlook the Boston Common.

150 Tremont Suite:  There will be a minimum number of suites open for freshmen.  The suites house 4, 5, 6 or 9 students.  A suite is a grouping of double and single (only one single per suite) rooms around a furnished common living space.  The suite members share a bathroom that is housed within the suite.  Given the additional privacy of a suite, suite members are responsible for maintaining the bathroom, including providing supplies and cleaning the bathroom.

Miller Hall Cluster:  most rooms at Miller Hall are a part of a cluster.  A cluster is two rooms that share an adjoining bathroom.  Most clusters consist of 2 double rooms housing 4 students, although there are a few clusters that have 1 double and 1 single and house 3 students.  There are several quads in the building.  Each quad houses FOUR students who share a bathroom.  Given the additional privacy of a cluster, cluster members are responsible for maintaining the bathroom, including providing supplies and cleaning the bathroom.

10 West Suite:   The suites house 3-5 students.  There are 2-4 bedrooms and all of the students within a suite share a bathroom.  Like the Miller Hall Cluster, there is no shared living room.  All suites open into a furnished common area.  Given the additional privacy of a suite, suite members are responsible for maintaining the bathroom, including providing supplies and cleaning the bathroom.

10 West Apartment:  The apartments house 2-6 students (typically upperclass students).  Each apartment has the same bedroom furniture as the residence halls.  In addition, there is a fully furnished kitchen (table, chairs, refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, etc.) and living room.  There is a bathroom – many with a bathtub – in each apartment.

Accepted students will receive a housing information packet by mid-April.  Housing assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis, based on deposit date.  Housing assignments are sent to students by mid-July. All CAS and SBS honors students are housed in Miller Hall, per request of each school.
