• Not Just A Number: Other Programs Offered

The Off-Campus Housing Office is continually looking for ways in which to make living off-campus easier for our students so that they can focus on their learning experience.  Some of the programs we offer are:

Commuter Ambassador Program

The Commuter Ambassador (CA) is an experienced Suffolk University student who is a para-professional member of the Off-Campus Housing Office (OCHO) within the Enrollment and Retention Division.  The Commuter Ambassador is supervised by the Director and Assistant Director of Off-Campus Housing.  The Commuter Ambassador helps students transition to college life, serving as a mentor and resource for students who commute to campus.

Mediation

Not everyone is a great communicator, so when necessary, the Director of Off-Campus Housing will work with students to get the lines of communication flowing and to collaborate on creating a roommate contract that is manageable and realistic.  There are many resources available to our students both on campus and off-campus.  The first step is to check in with the director of off-campus housing to discuss the situation.

Tenants’ Rights Workshops

Being a tenant and a good neighbor comes with certain rights and responsibilities.  Know what your rights are before you sign a lease or confront a landlord.  The Off-Campus Housing Office offers multiple opportunities to attend workshops and meet with experts.

Need to Sublet Your Apartment?

The Off-Campus Housing Office offers many workshops on ’How to Sublet Your Apartment’.  The workshops are free and open to all.  For those of you who are living off-campus and thinking about studying abroad - this workshop would be beneficial.

Get Connected/Stay Connected

Typically, the day after you move into your apartment is when you realize that you are not connected - something is missing.  You may need contact information for a utility company, a RAM card, a locker, and maybe even a student ID card.  OCHO hosts a "Get Connected" social to connect you to each other, to various offices around campus, and to the services that our office has to offer you.
In addition, the Off-Campus Housing Office has a "Stay Connected" information table in the Donahue and Sawyer lobbis on a weekly basis to provide you with all the vital resources you need to be successful.  Have questions?  Need answers?  Not sure how to connect?  Stop by and see us!

Cooking 101

Cooking 101 is an opportunity to meet other students, share a meal, and learn a life skill!  There are three classes taught in the fall semester and three in the spring semester.  There is no cost for this program - just a lot of fun!  A chef will teach you how to prepare hearty dishes that are simple, fast and fun!
