Service Learning Teaching Assistants

Download Application - March 22, 2006

Last spring, the Office of Student Activities and Service Learning piloted a Service Learning Teaching Assistant (SLTA) program. The SLTA program provides support to faculty incorporating service-learning components in their courses. The program benefits both faculty and students by making service learning accessible to even the busiest faculty member, and by providing leadership and educational opportunities for Suffolk students.

Service Learning Teaching Assistants work with their assigned faculty members by: establishing service-learning projects, matching students with those projects, monitoring student service hours and activities, co-facilitating reflection discussions and exercises, and conducting evaluations of the service-learning students.

Interested in applying for an SLTA for your next service-learning course? Any faculty member teaching a service-learning course may request a Teaching Assistant. The Office of Student Activities and Service Learning assigns Teaching Assistants to as many faculty members as possible. Faculty who are interested in having an SLTA for their fall course must turn in a faculty interest form to Liz Tenaglia.
