Thanks to our membership in a number of library networks, we can offer Suffolk faculty, staff and students access to a wide range of library resources in and around Boston. These include:
The Boston Library Consortium is an association of 19 academic and research libraries located in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. You can search the consortium library catalogs for books and periodical titles. You will not be able to borrow books from most of the member libraries, but will be able to use them at each library. Exceptions are the University of Massachusetts at Boston, which is part of the Fenway Library Consortium, and the Boston Public Library (see listing below).
The Boston Public Library (BPL) has a large collection of art, books, research materials, and databases, and regularly hosts cultural events and exhibits. The main branch is in Copley Square. The Kirstein Branch, only minutes from the Suffolk campus, is a distinguished business library. There is a small West End Branch near Suffolk’s campus, across from the Ridgeway Building, at 151 Cambridge Street. To borrow books, you must obtain a BPL library card, by showing a valid Massachusetts ID.
The Fenway Library Consortium (FLC) is a cooperating group of 16 libraries in the Boston area. The libraries are open to current faculty, staff, and students of its member institutions, including Suffolk. FLC’s combined catalog is searchable. Holders of a valid Suffolk ID may borrow books from most FLC member libraries.
The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners administers a program of regional services that allows libraries of all types to provide library users with materials and information across the Commonwealth. The six Regional Library Systems provide services to, and support resource sharing among nearly 1,800 public, academic, school, and special libraries in Massachusetts. You can search many of the largest online academic and public library catalogs in the state through the Massachusetts Virtual Catalog.
