• Public Management

“I am not influenced by the expectation of promotion or pecuniary reward. I wish to be useful, and every kind of service necessary for the public good becomes honorable by being necessary.” - Nathan Hale, American patriot, 1755-1776

Public service has always been important to Suffolk University and the Sawyer Business School.

It was important to Suffolk University’s founder, Gleason Archer, in 1906 when he established the first evening law school in Boston for working-class students.

It was important in 1973, when the undergraduate major in Public Administration and the Master of Public Administration (MPA) degrees were first offered at Sawyer Business School.

And it’s important now, as the lure of bigger salaries in the private sector creates a strong pull away from crucial public service positions.

Our undergraduate degree in Public Administration is interdisciplinary, drawing upon the behavioral, social science, quantitative, administrative/management and liberal arts disciplines. The BSBA is closely linked to the graduate MPA degree offered by the Sawyer Business School.

For those contemplating a career in public service, there is no better place to prepare than in the shadow of the Massachusetts State House on Beacon Hill. The Sawyer Business School is perfectly positioned geographically, historically and academically for future public servants.
