Suffolk seniors Tamayo Manzanillo and Mike Maguire were selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Baseball All-Stars. Manzanillo was selected in the first baseman position for his .385 batting average with 13 homeruns and 51 RBIs. Maguire was selected as an outfielder for his .356 average with 53 hits and 23 stolen bases.
Suffolk first baseman Tamayo Manzanillo, outfielder Mike Maguire and infielder Matt Batchelder were named to the 2005 Division III NEIBA All-Regional team.
Manzanillo, a senior from Dorchester ,MA, was named to the first team as a first baseman. Maguire, a senior from Medford, MA, was named to the second team as an outfielder. Batchelder, a junior from Stoughton, MA, was named to the third team as an infielder.
In addition to Suffolk placing six players on the Great Northeast Athletic Conference first team, the Rams also received the Player of the Year award and Coach of the Year award.
Senior first baseman Tamayo Manzanillo was named 2005 GNAC Player of the Year, as well as first team All-GNAC.
Suffolk head baseball coach Cary McConnell was named 2005 Coach of the Year for his team’s 13-1 conference record and 4-0 GNAC tournament record. The Rams claimed the regular season title and the tournament title for 2005.
Six players were named to the GNAC first team. In addition to Manzanillo as an infielder, Suffolk junior short stop Matt Batchelder was named to the first team. In the ouffield, senior Mike Maguire was honored as a first team member. Sophomore catcher Marc Exarhopoulos and freshman designated hitter Nick Martinho were also named first team. Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Steve Durant was named as a first team Utility player.
Suffolk also placed three players on the GNAC second team. Junior infielder Kevin Reedy, junior pitcher Rony Mercado and senior pitcher Justin Waskiewicz were named to the GNAC second team.
Suffolk freshman Natalie West was selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Softball All-Stars. West was selected in the designated player position for her .412 batting average. West led Suffolk with 37 RBI and 20 doubles.
Suffolk placed three first team members on the 2005 New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association All-Star team. The Rams also had one second team player.
Suffolk freshman third baseman Katie Crowley, freshman designated player Natalie West and senior utility player Erin Pagel were named to the NEISCA 2005 All-Star first team. Junior outfielder Christina Nay was selected the the second team.
Four Suffolk softball players were named to the 2005 All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference first team. Senior Erin Pagel was selected as first team pitcher. Freshman Katie Crowley was named first team as an infielder. Freshman Natalie West was named first team as a designated hitter.
Two players received second team All-GNAC honors. Junior Brenna Burr was named second team as a catcher. Junior Jill Grant was selected second team as an infielder.
Head Softball coach Elaine Schwager was named GNAC Coach of the Year for 2005. Schwager was also named coach of the year in 2003.
Allison Fox was selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference first team for the 2004-05 season. Suffolk finished with a 8-4 GNAC record and reached the semifinals of the conference tournament. Fox averaged 11.0 points per game during conference play, 12.5 during the season. Fox is a senior forward from S. Easton, MA.
Junior forward Justin Bevis and junior midfielder Babacar Ndour were selected to the second team All Great Northeast Athletic Conference for the 2004 season.
Bevis led Suffolk in scoring with eight goals and seven assists on the season, four goals and four assists in GNAC play. The junior from Monroe, CT, was also named second team All-GNAC for 2003.
Ndour, a junior from Dakar, Senegal, had two goals and five assists this season, with one goal and one assist in conference play.
Junior setter Katie Hemlin was named to the third team All-Great Northeast Conference for 2004. She helped Suffolk to a No. 6 seed in the GNAC tournament, but the Rams lost their first round match to WNEC. Hemlin finished the season with 44 aces, 241 digs and 304 assists.
Samantha Urwin, a sophomore from Newton, NH, placed sixth in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference meet at Rivier College Oct. 30. Her time of 22:03 was her personal best this season on a true cross country course.
