Suffolk Student Ambassador: NicoleMy name is Nicole, and I’m from North Andover, MA. I’m in the class of 2010, and am an English major with minors in Education and Public Relations.

Two years ago when I was drowning in college tours and admissions brochures as a high school senior, Suffolk’s location in the heart of Boston stood out to me greatly. Now that I’m a sophomore at Suffolk, I still love the hustle and bustle of being a student in Boston, but I’ve come to realize that the school’s charm is not only in its location, but in its close-knit community. Whether it be in classes, on the street, or in the dorms, the willingness of the Suffolk community to learn, grow, and make memories together has amazed me time and time again. It’s this camaraderie that has made Suffolk come to feel like home for me.

Finding such a close-knit community at a school in Boston was shocking to me, as I expected to just be a tiny speck in a huge city. Instead, I am able to work and learn closely with my peers and professors, while still experiencing the thrills of Boston. The diversity and energy of the city is, in itself a learning experience. Simply walking through Boston teaches me new things about myself and the world every day.

When I walked into my first classes as a freshman, I had no idea what to expect of the professors. As a sophomore, I’m still amazed by the time and effort professors put into their students. Being surrounded by educators who are passionate about what they are doing is amazing. I’ve found nothing but respect, encouragement, and guidance from my professors, both in and out of the classroom.

When I’m not in my own classes, I’m a TA for SU101, a course designed to help freshman adapt to college life. My own college experience has helped me immensely in this job. I understand that the college search process can be intimidating; however, I’ve found that staying true to yourself and following your instincts will lead you towards the right decisions.

Once I leave Suffolk, I hope to attend graduate school. Ideally, I would love to eventually work in both public relations and teaching.
