Two Letters of Recommendation (PhD in Economics requires 3 letters of recommendation)

Suffolk University does not have a recommendation form. We require that the two letters written on the applicant’s behalf be from persons competent to judge the applicant’s probable success in the program to which they are applying. These letters are usually from the applicant’s professors or employers/supervisors who are able to give an in-depth evaluation of the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses with respect to academic work and work experience. The recommender should use personal letterhead when available and can send the recommendation directly to Suffolk University, or give it to the student in a sealed, signed envelope, which can be submitted with the application. Recommenders should include their full name, title and a phone number where we can contact them if necessary. Applicants first and last names should be included in the letter.

Appropriate Testing (GRE, MAT, GMAT, LSAT, MTEL). Please refer to your program of interest for testing requirements.

Some graduate programs do not require standardized testing as a part of the application process, HOWEVER, most graduate programs offered at Suffolk University require some form of standardized entrance examinations such as the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). When required, applicants must submit examination scores to complete the admission process. These scores are valid from the date taken for five (5) years. These scores are only one component of the credentials used to make admission decisions, and are evaluated in the context of the applicant’s complete application. Our AVERAGE scores for each of the exams are as follows:

GMAT: 500
GRE: 500 per section;
3.5-4 on analytical writing section

MAT: 46 raw score

In addition, test scores will be reviewed once and only once.  If scores are a component of both admission and merit aid consideration, the scores used for the admission decision will also be used for a merit aid decision.  Students may not submit new scores after admission in order to be re-considered for merit aid.

Examinations are administered across the United States as well as sites worldwide, and require a registration application and examination fee. The OFFICIAL score must be sent to the Graduate Admission Office. Suffolk University’s Code for ETS test scores is 3771. No department code is needed for GRE test takers. Suffolk University’s code for Pearson View scores (GMAT) are program dependent, and listed below:
