Defining a Country Ambassador

What is a Country Ambassador?

Suffolk University’s Country Ambassadors include alumni, currently enrolled students and parents of students. Country Ambassadors are volunteers who assist prospective students and their families with questions about studying at Suffolk University and living in Boston.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contact prospective students (undergraduate and graduate level) via phone, mail, and/or email.
  • Answer questions of prospective students (undergraduate and graduate level) & their families.
  • Contact Director of International Alumni Relations, Dorothy Zahir, with correspondence with prospective students.
  • Keep a log of prospective students (undergraduate and graduate level) who where contacted.
  • Correct personal information on prospective students (undergraduate and graduate level).
  • Keep a log of frequently asked questions and forward to Dan Wu, 8 Ashburton Place, Boston, MA 02108 or via fax (617) 305-1751 or via email dwu@suffolk.edu
  • Visit schools &/or institutions in your area promoting studying at Suffolk University in Boston, MA.
  • Ask schools &/or institutions if they are interested in receiving information from Suffolk University.
  • If interested, take down name of school &/or institutions, contact person, title, full address, phone numbers, fax numbers, and email addresses. (Also, ask if school or institution has a web site and get web site address.)
  • Keep a log of name & number of schools & institutions visited and forward to the Office of International Alumni Relations, 8 Ashburton Place, Boston, MA 02108 or via fax (617) 305-1751 or via email dwu@suffolk.edu.

Country Ambassador & Administrators Relationship

Country Ambassadors and administrators relate in a unique way, drawing on the leadership skills and technical knowledge of each other. The Country Ambassador is responsible for working with administrators and prospective students (undergraduate and graduate level). The chief responsibility of the International Alumni Office is to ensure that the Country Ambassadors have the tools necessary to meet their responsibilities.

What a Country Ambassador Can Expect from the University

  1. Receive responsibilities, which are important to the institution and appropriate to the ability, interest, and influence of the Country Ambassador.
  2. Be taken seriously when making suggestions or providing information.
  3. Be served promptly by the institution’s staff.
  4. Receive the training and materials necessary to accomplish all tasks.
  5. Receive essential information about the institution’s mission, activities, and objectives, and be kept informed.
  6. Have his/her time commitment respected.
  7. Receive appropriate appreciation for the work done.

Check list for Country Ambassadors:

  1. Contact prospective students via phone, mail, or email.
  2. Keep log of contacts with prospective students.
  3. Forward a log and correspondence (letters &/or emails) to Dan Wu, Director of International Alumni Affairs & Special Projects.
  4. Correct any personal information on prospective student.
  5. Keep a log of frequently asked questions & give to Dan Wu.
  6. Visit schools &/or institutions in area.
  7. Keep a log of schools &/or institutions visited in area: name of school &/or institution, name of contact person, title, full address, phone numbers, fax numbers, and email address (get web site address, if applicable.

Other Opportunities to Assist Suffolk University

  • Assisting Suffolk University Administrators/Staff/Faculty traveling to your region. Your responsibility would be to assist the person traveling to you region with setting up appointments with alumni, prospective students, schools, and/or accommodations (depending on the individual’s purpose of travel).   • Contacting alumni in your region. You will be provided a list of alumni that are in your region. Your responsibility would be to contact the alumni and make corrections to their personal information. You would then forward their information to International Alumni Relations Office, 8 Ashburton Place, Boston, MA 02108.
  • Forming an International Alumni Association in your region. An International Alumni Association is comprised of a network of alumni within your region who are willing to assist new alumni with their return to their home country and any questions they may have. Also, the association forms a network for alumni to meet on a social and professional level.   • Becoming a mentor. Your responsibility would be to outreach to graduating students from your region and/or your degree program. You would be available to answer questions or concerns the young alumni have about what to expect when they graduate from Suffolk University.
